Pilates, Yoga & Zumba Teacher

I'm Celine and I have been teaching Pilates, Yoga and Zumba since 2012. I absolutely love teaching classes and my students come in all ages, shapes and sizes. Last year, I was delighted to receive the Best Pilates Studio in Eastbourne Award, in recognition of my commitment to quality and satisfaction.

My approach to teaching is fun, friendly, welcoming and above all, professional. Many of my students have been with me for several years and I always make sure that newcomers feel safe and included when they first join. I believe that attending a fitness class isn’t just about getting fit or losing weight, it's also about taking care of your social and emotional wellbeing. It is an opportunity to meet new people, connect with others and improve your physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

Over the years, I have developed my own teaching style to ensure that my classes are never boring or repetitive. For example, I often use small hand weights to help build up upper body strength or incorporate yoga poses, such as the Yoga tree, to work on balance. I sometimes include a mindful meditation practice at the end of my Pilates classes, which helps to calm and soothe your mind.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going on mini adventures in my campervan, walking, reading, singing, pottering in my garden and going to the theatre. I run The Happy Place Choir, a community choir based in Old Town, singing rock, pop and gospel songs!

What Pilates means to me
I first discovered Pilates when I was looking for an exercise programme to help address persistent back pain issues. I also needed to strengthen my abdominals after having three children and my sedentary job had left me feeling tired and lacking in energy and strength. As I hit my early 40's, I realised that I needed to do something to reduce the impact of ageing and Pilates has proven to be a powerful and effective form of exercise. I am stronger, fitter and more flexible than I probably was in my 20's!

My students come in all ages, shapes and fitness level, from the super fit to those who haven't exercised in years. I have seen for myself the huge benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle through regular exercise. The power of Pilates to change your body and your mindset cannot be under-estimated!

Pilates & Yoga Teacher

I'm Kate and I am a yoga and Pilates instructor with many years experience of teaching.  Ever since I was a child I understood the healing benefits of moving, I remember being a very young teenager and taking myself off to the swimming baths in the holidays to swim on my own. I never stopped moving and dancing, I even remember pinching my mother's fold up exercise bike and stationing it in front of the TV as a teenager and regularly cycling for miles whilst watching the screen.  Exercise made me feel good then, just as it does now.  I found yoga in my early 20s and it had a profound effect on my mental wellbeing.  I understood quite early on in adulthood that engaging in holistic based practices was going to be beneficial for my body and mind.

My teaching style is inclusive, meaning I ensure that everyone in my class is able to access each move in a way that is right for them, and I do this in a sensitive and non judgemental way so that no one feels singled out.  I would consider myself really good at offering modifications when needed, whether that be something less challenging or something more challenging.  I like to think that everyone who comes to my class gets the most out of their time with me.  I am a professional teacher with my students' best interests at heart.  I'm really friendly and a happy person and hope this comes across in my classes.

I am also a trainee counsellor and this feels like a natural extension of the body focused work that I already do in yoga and Pilates.  I myself have experienced how emotions are held in the body and I believe that yoga and Pilates can help you to develop an intuitive sense of what is happening internally and that movement can help to release some of the stress and negative emotions that life's ups and downs can bring.

I have three children, two with my partner, aged 10 and 8, and a step-daughter who is 16.  When I'm not teaching or studying I like to find time to potter in my garden and walk my labradoodle in the forest, my favourite place to be.

What Pilates means to me

I have been teaching Pilates since 2018.  After the birth of my second child in 2015 it became clear that I needed to find a way to repair my core muscles after they were left damaged by two pregnancies and two emergency c-sections. My GP signposted me to a women's health physio and it was through this that I learnt the amazing benefits of Pilates to help restore my core strength and build overall body strength.  It became clear to me that Pilates was the perfect accompaniment to my yoga teaching and practise with both practices giving my body everything it needed to stay supple, strong and healthy. Never content with being a participant, I decided I needed to know all that I could about Pilates and qualified so that I could share the benefits with other people.  I have been teaching ever since!

My students never stop telling me the benefits they feel from practising Pilates.  It truly is an amazing approach to building and maintaining strength, balance, flexibility and coordination.  I look forward to meeting you on the mat!
